Getting started with counselling
Beginning therapy can take courage. This page explains what to expect and how we might begin.
Our first conversation
Reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel unsure about how to begin. I offer a short free phone call before we meet. This gives us a chance to talk a little about what has been happening for you, and for you to ask any questions about how I work.
There’s no pressure or commitment at this stage. It’s simply an opportunity to connect, to get a feel for each other, and to see whether arranging an initial consultation might feel right for you
The initial consultation
When you feel ready, our next step would be to arrange an initial consultation. This is a longer session where we can think together about what has brought you to counselling and what you hope it might offer.
Some people come with a clear sense of what they would like to explore. Others arrive not quite knowing, only with a feeling that something doesn’t feel right or has become too hard to carry alone. Both experiences are welcome. We can begin wherever you are.
This first meeting gives you a sense of how it feels to talk with me, and whether the space feels right for you. You’re welcome to take some time afterwards to reflect, and to decide whether you’d like to continue with ongoing sessions.
How we work together
As our work begins, there are a few things it may be helpful to know about how we will meet and how the sessions are held.
Each of our sessions lasts 50 minutes and takes place at the same time and location every week. The consistency of that rhythm can offer a sense of steadiness and safety as we work together.
I offer sessions in person in Eastleigh, Alton and Basingstoke, and online for anyone who would prefer to meet virtually. Please note that my in person spaces do not currently have step free access.
Each 50 minute session costs £60. A small number of reduced fee spaces are available for those who need them.
However we work, this time is set aside entirely for you, a quiet and consistent space where we can begin to make sense of what matters most.
If you’d like to get in touch
If something here has resonated with you, or if you’d like to find out a little more, I invite you to get in touch. You don’t need to know exactly what you want to say. We can begin wherever you are.
Please use the form below, or if you prefer, you can email me directly at eleacounselling@outlook.com. I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
