FAQs
What is counselling and how can it help me?
Counselling is a talking therapy. It is a safe and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Psychodynamic counselling, in particular, helps you understand how past experiences and relationships may continue to shape your life.
It can be helpful for
Anxiety, depression, stress, or feeling overwhelmed
Relationship difficulties with family, friends, or partners
ADHD, autism, or other neurodivergence challenges
Navigating life changes, loss, or grief
Understanding patterns in emotions, behaviours, and relationships
How do I know if counselling is right for me?
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure about your feelings or relationships, counselling can be helpful. Many people start counselling to explore specific difficulties or to gain insight into patterns in their life. For others, though, it can feel harder to put into words. You may have a sense of unease, being lost, or not quite knowing what’s wrong. Both of these experiences are welcome in my practice.
What happens in the first session?
Your first step is a free initial call of around 10–15 minutes. This allows us to talk briefly about what’s happening for you, and for me to explain how I work.
If we both feel it could be a good fit, we move to an initial consultation of up to an hour and a half. This can take place face-to-face or online. During the initial consultation, we’ll think together about what’s happening for you now and I’ll ask questions about your background and your experiences. After this session, you can take some time to reflect on whether it feels right to continue with me.
How long are sessions and when do we have them?
Sessions are 50 minutes long and usually held once a week. After your initial consultation, if we both feel it’s a good fit, we can agree on a regular time and place that works best for you.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes. Everything you share is confidential. There are a few legal exceptions, which I will explain if relevant. Confidentiality is key to creating a space where you can feel safe to explore what matters to you.
Do you offer sessions online?
Yes. Sessions can be attended in person at Eastleigh, Alton, or Basingstoke, or online via a secure platform, depending on what works best for you.
How do I book?
You can book your initial call or session via the contact form, or by emailing or calling me directly. I am happy to answer any questions before you book, helping you feel comfortable and informed.
